Parish Councils

TRUSTEES

The trustees of the parish are official legal officers of the parish. They are entrusted to monitor the business dealings of the parish. The positions are Trustee-Secretary and Trustee-Treasurer. Trustees are elected for a two-year term and may serve for three consecutive terms.

PASTORAL COUNCIL

The Pastoral Council consists of selected at-large members and committee representatives who assist the pastor in making decisions about the mission, goals and policies for the parish. They work as the “consensus forming body” seeking to find general agreement among its members on issues facing the parish. At-large members are selected for a three-year term with staggered terms of service. Committee representatives are selected from their respective committees for one- to three-year terms. A council chairperson is elected at the first meeting of the fiscal year to serve a one-year term.

FINANCE COMMITTEE

Members of the Finance Committee are adept in financial matters and assist the pastor and business administrator in the wise stewardship of the material gifts entrusted by God to the parish in support of the mission of the parish and the broader Church. They perform functions including budget preparation, fund raising, accounting systems, and personnel administration. Members are selected for a three-year term with staggered terms of service. A council chairperson is elected at the first meeting of the fiscal year to serve a one-year term.

BUILDINGS & GROUNDS COMMITTEE

Members of the Buildings & Grounds Committee provide knowledge, experience and/or an interest in building maintenance and repair, grounds keeping, landscaping and other related fields. They participate in decision-making and supervision of maintenance and construction issues that involve parish buildings and grounds. Members are selected for a three-year term with staggered terms of service. A committee chairperson is elected at the first meeting of the fiscal year to serve a one-year term.

ANNUAL CHURCH ELECTIONS

Council elections and selections are held on Pentecost Sunday each year. Pentecost Sunday, known as the “Birthday of Our Christian Faith,” is the day celebrated as the one in which the Apostles received the call by the Holy Spirit to a life of service to the newborn Church.

In searching for modern day disciples, St. Mary selects new members to both the Parish Pastoral Council and Finance Council, and elects a Trustee for a two-year term. The Buildings and Grounds Committee always has open membership. Councils meet four times throughout the fiscal year for an hour; no meetings are held in the summer.

Members should be committed to the mission of the church and have a concern for the good of the entire parish. They should be able to commit to attendance at parish council meetings, be confirmed, practicing Catholics and persons of faith, hope and love.

Nominations can be made contacting Fr. Getchel or the Parish Office. Eligible candidates will then be notified.
